Andy Howard, Schroders Global Head of Sustainable Investment:

Amid increased scrutiny of investment industry initiatives, we remain confident in our view that our clients stand to benefit from the enhanced value that can be unlocked from our participation in such groups. We demonstrate this in our climate collaborative engagements at a multinational utility company and our collaborative engagements on paid sick leave at TJX. In addition, we share how deforestation engagement can be a key lever to protect our investments and the planet.

At Schroders we do not take a “one size fits all” approach to ESG integration. We understand that different asset classes require different methods to integrate ESG into their investment processes effectively. Therefore, by understanding the externality profile of an investee company we can achieve a nuanced, objective, and comprehensive view of the issuers’ sustainability risk profile and the effect the issuer has across its stakeholders. All of this ultimately leads to more sustainable and informed investment decisions.

Finally, following a trip to multiple Asian apparel factories we share insights that shape our engagement approach for various topics in the sector.
